4) Alex Gordon – Los Angeles Angels

This deal makes a lot of sense and is a fun “on paper” signing as well; this would give the Angels one ridiculously effective outfield. The Angels for years have been trying to build this super team, much like their NL neighbors, and have been able to get the high-priced signings to work out in their favor, but that doesn’t mean they are going to stop anytime soon. We saw the Angels try and make a run at Jason Heyward, and it only makes sense to see them go after and successfully sign Alex Gordon.

Only this time, I believe it will work. Alex Gordon is not just some high-priced free agent hitter. He’s a really good left fielder, even though UZR leads you to believe his range isn’t near as good as his arm is.

He’s also one of those clubhouse guys that the Angels could probably use, one of those guys who can help lead a team. His .269/.348/.435 slash and 134 career homers will go well with guys like Trout, Albert Pujols, and Kole Kalhoun, as will his projected 3.5 fWAR.

He played that leadership role well in Kansas City; he was a guy who went through it all with the bad seasons, the hope and failure of his early MLB career, the World Series loss last year, and the championship this year.

He’s one of those guys who could be the one final piece of the puzzle for the Angels. Out of all of the signings the Angels could make this offseason, this is the one signing that I think they absolutely need to make.
