Western Michigan and Middle Tennessee looked to match the excitement of last year’s Bahamas Bowl.

Both Western Michigan and Middle Tennessee were looking for their eighth win on the year. With similar teams, they faced off in one of the most exciting bowls from a season ago, the Bahamas Bowl.

Zach Terrell and Brent Stockstill have guided two of he best passing offenses in the country, ranking in the top 30. This had the look of a high-scoring affair, but it would be up to both run games to open up the passing attack.

Western Michigan’s ground game got off to a tremendous start behind Jamauri Bogan who had five carries for 113 yards early on. Big plays were aplenty on both sides as there were four plays of 40-plus yards, including an 80-yard pass from Zach Terrell to Corey Davis.

In the end, it was surprisingly the run game which won it for the Broncos, 45-31, behind Bogan’s four rushing scores.

Three Stars

Jamauri Bogan was outstanding for a usual pass-first offense, leading the Broncos with 19 carries for 215 yards and an incredible four touchdowns.

Have to include a guy from Middle Tennessee on here as Brent Stockstill was great for the Blue Raiders, completing 26-of-39 passes for 327 yards and three touchdowns.

Corey Davis and Daniel Braverman deserve tie for the third star spot. Davis finished with eight catches for 183 yards and a score and Braverman caught five passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.

Betting Odds

Western Michigan was a five-point favorite heading into this one and the over/under was set at 64 points. The Broncos covered the spread and the two teams combined for 76 points.

2016 Openers

The Broncos of Western Michigan will open the 2016 season on the road against the Northwestern Wildcats, one of the Big Ten’s best squads.

Middle Tennessee will start the 2016 campaign on the road against the Vanderbilt Commodores. A win versus an SEC team will go a long way confidence-wise.
