Chicago White Sox one smart move away from playoff contention
Alex Gordon
Expectations were that Alex Gordon would not be in the White Sox’s plans. However, the longer he remains unsigned, the better it is for Chicago.
What are the odds of Gordon taking a one-year deal after walking away from an offer to re-sign with the Kansas City Royals?
In baseball, most MLB free agents would like to find a team before the turn of the calendar year. Pitchers have dominated this free-agency period. There are few teams with money to spend, and of all the years for the New York Yankees to get frugal, things are not materializing the Alex Gordon’s camp could have anticipated.
Gordon, at 32, is the oldest between the trio including Cespedes and Upton would be a perfect fit defensively for the White Sox.
He covers so much range in the outfield, that any mistakes made by center fielder Adam Eaton would be covered. The only downside to Alex Gordon is that he is not a power hitter. Conversely, his penchant for getting on base would help a team that finished near the bottom of just about every offensive statistic that matters. If Gordon does not find a home soon, the Chicago White Sox could land him at a discounted rate.
