The New York Giants could use an influx of young talent from the 2016 NFL Draft

The New York Giants have been a part of one of the most wide-open divisions in the NFL in the 2015 season. The NFC East has been up for grabs for most of the year, but for all the wrong reasons. Perhaps the biggest indictment of the Giants in 2015 is the fact that the team in one of the worst top-to-bottom divisions in all of professional football couldn’t manage to string together enough wins to take the lead in and/or run away with the NFC East.

There have been problems on both sides of the ball for the Giants this season. While Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr., and the offense have been explosive and put up big numbers on occasion, they are far from a complete offense. Their play on the offensive line has been inconsistent at best and that line has been severely lacking in terms of depth.

Even more concerning than the line on the offensive side of the ball, the lack of balance for the Giants offense has been staggering. While New York has been a top-10 passing offense all season, their rushing attack has been nearly non-existent for much of the year. Rashad Jennings, Andre Williams, Shane Vereen, and Orleans Darkwa simply haven’t been effective in moving the ball on the ground for one reason or another.

However, the Giants’ biggest issues are undoubtedly on the defensive side of the ball coming out of the 2015 season. Even after the return of Jason Pierre-Paul (club hand and all), the New York pass-rush has been lackluster to say the least. It’s wholly unsurprising that the Giants have the second fewest sacks in the league this season, amassing only 19 through the first 15 weeks of the 2015 season.

That lack of a pass rush and major concerns in the secondary have led to the Giants having the worst pass defense in the entire league in terms of yards per game, allowing teams to throw for 308 yards per contest this season. Their run defense has been slightly better, but only slightly. Through Week 15, the Giants have been the No. 21 ranked rushing defense in the league in terms of yards allowed per game on the ground.

The needs are numerous in New York, but defense should be the chief concern heading into the offseason and, most importantly, the 2016 NFL Draft. They’ll need to address their pass-rush, address the secondary, and add some quality depth to the offense on the line and even in the backfield.

With that in mind, here is a complete 7-round mock draft for the New York Giants.
