Round 2: Darian Thompson, FS (Boise State)

With how their secondary has performed in 2015, there’s no getting around the fact that the Giants have a real need to improve their core of defensive backs, specifically at safety. Unfortunately for them, there aren’t really any true free safety prospects in the draft that would rate as first-round talents. That being said, Darian Thompson from the Boise State Broncos is the best prospect at the position and, with a likely second-round valuation, he could certainly fall to the Giants in the second round.

The first thing that you have to love about Thompson as an NFL prospect at safety is his length. At 6-2, the Broncos man has the ability to make plays in the secondary and as a tackler that many at the position might not be able to get to simply because of his size. However, he’s also tremendously active as well, which lends itself to making plays. He’s always active on the defensive end both in the passing and running games and puts himself in positions to make plays.

Thompson isn’t a perfect prospect as he undoubtedly needs to improve his overall defensive awareness, but the talent and the aggressiveness he clearly displays could be exactly what the Giants need from a prospect in this draft.
