Buffalo Bills 7-Round 2016 NFL Mock Draft
By Chase Ruttig
Round 3: Tyler Matakevich, Temple MLB
Tyler Matakevich is another defensive pick for the Bills, but would be one who could jump in and make an immediate impact for Buffalo after an outstanding career at Temple with the Owls where he was one of the best tacklers in the middle of the field in the entire nation during his four years with the program.
Matakevich was just the seventh player to have four straight 100+ tackle seasons in his collegiate career, and was so good enough in 2015 to win the Chuck Bednarik Award for the best defensive player in the country. Getting high praise for his work put in with Temple and a senior season that has vaulted him into third round status.
In 2015, Matakevich had an all-around season with 115 tackles, 14.5 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks. In addition to those numbers, Matakevich also brought in five interceptions and 10 passes defended to show his versatility both as a coverage man as well as a downfield linebacker who can make plays at the point of contact.
The Bills will need to look for offensive talent eventually in this draft, but if Matakevich is still on the board there may not be a better player to take in the third round than him. Even if that would mean loading up on the defensive side of the football with the first three picks of the draft.
Other Options: Sebastian Tretola, OG. Kyle Murphy, OT.
