Chargers vs Raiders: Full highlights, final score and more
The Oakland Raiders battled the San Diego Chargers in an emotional contest at O.co Coliseum.
Normally I turn the comments off on these posts, and normally I write all about the football games. Tonight, I’m doing neither.
Quite honestly, I have watched very little of this game at all. It was on in the background while I was drinking beers, playing Cards Against Humanity, eating hot dogs and chili and sharing plenty of laughs with my new wife and our family.
I was married in July of this past year, and between the 18th of that month and August 5 I passed through a wedding, honeymoon, and a move from Atlanta to Chicago. Since the fifth, I’ve worked 55+ hours a week trying to assimilate FanSided with Sports Illustrated and grow our site’s traffic month over month during the busy months of football season. It has been challenging, fun, and a very insightful grind.
I worked on Christmas Eve, and the five days off that follow mark the first time since August that my wife and I have shared a day off.
Long story short: I did not care one iota about this game. I am writing this recap because it’s part of my job. I spent the better part of my evening laughing and catching up with family that I’ve dearly missed in the long cold months since moving out of the South. Sports were in the background where they rightfully should be during the holiday season.
As for the game, it was quite a thriller. Oakland zipped back into contention, and then the lead, late in the game. San Diego tied it deep in the fourth and the contest went into overtime. If you were soaking in the athletic competition as a supplement for being with family, then you were rightly treated to a great exhibition. It’s only fitting that it ended on the leg of longtime Raider Sebastian Janikowski.
I hope you all enjoyed the game and have a wonderful holiday season. Be kind to one another. Cheers.
Three stars
Charles Woodson: Woodson’s stats may not jump off the page, but his contribution to the game was immeasurable. In what might be the Raiders’ final game in Oakland, Woodson played the final home game of his career. He is, undeniably one of the greatest players ever to line up in the defensive backfield.
Denzel Perryman: 9 tackles (8 solo), 1 sack, 1 tackle for a loss,
Latavius Murray: 6 receptions, 62 yards, 19 rushes, 79 yards, 1 touchdown.
