Round 2: Desmond King, CB (Iowa)

Iowa Hawkeyes cornerback Desmond Kings hasn’t generated the buzz as some of the other corners that will be in the 2016 NFL Draft class have, but he probably should be generating just as much. However, the fact that he’s not could mean that he slips out of the first round. If that’s the case, Miami should make the wise move early in the second round of the draft and nab up the talented prospect.

King’s biggest limitation is his size as he’s just 5-11, but that’s not incredibly undersized and he more than makes up for it in a number of areas. He has great athleticism that helps him still adequately cover bigger receivers and also has the speed, quickness, and agility to keep with big, playmaking receivers through their routes. Moreover, King has shown over his time at Iowa that he is a sure, technical tackler who’s also capable of laying a big hit when the opportunity presents itself.

King has the undeniable potential to be one of the sleepers in this draft and, as the scouting process wears on leading up to the draft, he’s a player with the potential to move up draft boards. As of now, though, he’s rated as an early second-round prospect. With potential first-round talent, though, the Dolphins would be crazy to not address one of their biggest needs by selecting King if he’s there.
