According to a report from Sport, David Beckham is eyeing Gerard Pique for future MLS club in Miami.

David Beckham has had a plethora of issues trying to launch his Major League Soccer club in Miami. Although the club was awarded to Beckham and Miami over a year ago, there have been several setbacks to the project. The club have failed to secure land to build a new soccer-specific stadium on, and there had been talk about whether the team would eventually be abandon. Fortunately, that all seems to have changed earlier this month, with a deal for a Miami stadium looking all but done.

As a stadium plan finally seems to be in place, Beckham has reportedly moved on and started to focus his attention on players he would like to bring in. According to a report from Sport, the Englishman wants Spanish international and Barcelona defender, Gerard Pique, plying his trade in MLS with Miami.

Pique grew up in the Barcelona youth system, before deciding to sign his first professional contract with Premier League giants, Manchester United. However, after winning the UEFA Champions League with the Red Devils, he returned home to Barcelona in the summer of 2008, where he has played ever since.

Not only did Pique win the Champions League for the second consecutive season in his first year back at Barcelona, he went on to lift Europe’s most prestigious club trophy two more times since. Along with the Blaugrana’s success in the Champions League, Pique has also helped the club win the league five times, Copa del Rey three times, Spanish Super Cup four times, UEFA Super Cups three times, and the Club World Cups three times.

While there is still plenty of work to do for Beckham and company before their club can begin play, it seems as though they have already begun thinking about exactly how they want the team to look on the pitch.
