Raptors big man Bismack Biyombo blocked Jabari Parker at the rim with authority

Bismack Biyombo has been surprisingly impressive this season with the Toronto Raptors after being thrust into the starting center role because of an injury to Jonas Valanciunas. He’s been a monster on the boards and with his shot blocking while also providing the occasional shocking burst of offense. However, it was his shot blocking that Jabari Parker should have been wary of on Saturday.

As the Raptors took on the Milwaukee Bucks, Parker received a beautiful pass from underneath the basket as he cut down the baseline towards the rim. However, Biyombo was able to get his body turned and then rose up to meet Parker at his peak and vehemently deny him access to the rim with a huge block:

Parker is still a young player, but he’s got to know that Biyombo does one thing consistently well and that thing is blocking shots at the rim. For all of his deficiencies over his career, he’s not the guy you want challenging you at the rim. Now the second-year Bucks forward knows that.

As for Biyombo, perhaps it was a change of scenery that has ignited him this season, but he’s looked far more competent in Toronto than he ever did in Charlotte. We’ll see how long that keeps up and if it’s sustainable once Valanciunas inevitably returns.
