30 worst NFL Playoff teams of all time

6. 1969 Houston Oilers (6-6-2)
This might be flubbing the rules a little bit considering that the Houston Oilers didn’t make their way to the NFL until the following season and made the AFL Playoffs in 1969, but the fact remains is that it was close enough to their NFL arrival and that they were bad enough to warrant a high spot on these rankings.
The 1962 Oilers finished the regular season with just a 6-6-2 record, but even that is remarkable considering how bad they were. The dubious combination at quarterback of Pete Beathard and Don Trull combined to throw an astonishing 27 interceptions on the season while only tossing 13 touchdowns to their credit. Moreover, running backs Roy Hopkins and Hoyle Granger were horribly ineffective running the ball. The only mildly redeeming quality was their defense.
This team undoubtedly benefitted from playing in smaller AFL or else they never would have made the postseason. That was only made even clearer in the first round of the playoffs when they were absolutely dismantled by the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders handed them a beating of epic proportions with the final score winding up at 56-7 and outgaining them 412-197 in total yardage. That’s a pretty good indication that this Oilers team was awful.
