29. 1983 Los Angeles Rams (9-7)

Another team from the 1983 NFL season makes it into these dubious rankings is the 1983 Los Angeles Rams. This team finished the year with a 9-7 record and, after having finished with that record just four seasons prior and making a run to the Super Bowl, many people may have looked at them as a team that wasn’t as decidedly mediocre as they actually were. Make no mistake, though, this wasn’t a great football team.

Getting this out of the way, there was at least one aspect of this team that was not terrible and that came in the form of running back Eric Dickerson. The then 23-year-old running back was phenomenal as he rushed for 1,808 yards, 18 touchdowns and 4.6 yards per carry on the season. However, even Dickerson couldn’t save the offense from Vince Ferrgamo at quarterback, which held that side of the ball back quite a bit to make them only slightly above average, even with Dickerson involved.

Their defense was equally as average, but perhaps the most telling part about the 1983 Rams were ousted in the playoffs. They won over the Dallas Cowboys in the Wildcard round, but were absolutely dismantled by Washington in the next round. Granted, those Redskins team in that era were great. However, any playoff team that gets beat 51-7 in a postseason game may not have been that good at all.
