Fantasy Football update: Saints’ Drew Brees to start
Drew Brees is set to start for the New Orleans Saints against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
With fantasy football championship games taking place across the country, injuries to key fantasy players will be monitored carefully. One such key player is Drew Brees, the fantasy darling at quarterback for many years with the New Orleans Saints. Brees has not performed to such the high level of previous seasons this year, but is still fantasy relevant, and in the vital Week 16 has a nice matchup with a generous Jacksonville Jaguars’ defense.
Brees has never missed a home game since being signed by the Saints, and with the chance that this could be the end of his tenure in New Orleans, he was never going to sit this one out. Brees had suffered a torn plantar fascia which has listed him as questionable throughout the week, however, it looks as though he has overcome such an injury to play.
The Jaguars are a kind matchup for Brees, allowing the sixth most points per game to opposing quarterbacks, at an average at just north of 20 points. In a crucial championship game, 20 points is a minimum from your starting quarterback, and with Brees now starting for the Saints, it offers another option to fantasy owners.
There have been plenty of rumors about the future of head coach Sean Payton and Drew Brees, after yet another losing season in the shadow of Cam Newton and his Panthers. Whatever the case, Brees is still a fantasy darling, and many will be thanking their lucky stars that he is playing this Sunday.
