Giants vs. Vikings, 49-17: Full highlights, final score and more
The Vikings dominated the Odell Beckham Jr.-less Giants to tie for AFC North lead
The Minnesota Vikings already had the clear advantage over the New York Giants even if Eli Manning and company would have been playing with a full compliment of weapons. However, as the Giants were playing on Sunday Night Football without Odell Beckham Jr., they found themselves in an even deeper hole and were left with an offense simply unable to do just about anything against a talented Vikings defense.
Beckham’s absence left Manning and the Giants looking completely inept and the Minnesota defense pounced on that early and often. After a Blair Walsh field goal was the only scoring in the first quarter, the Vikings defense remained strong as Teddy Bridgewater broke things open with a touchdown pass to Kyle Rudolph. After that and then a Harrison Smith pick-six, Minnesota cruised into halftime with a 19-3 lead.
Things only got worse from that point on for New York. Adrian Peterson started to get things rolling in the Vikings rushing game, Manning kept getting sacked and throwing more interceptions, and everything was coming up roses for the home team. Rueben Randle broke off a 72-yard touchdown pass at the end of the third quarter, but it merely put a band aid on a gash to make the score 32-10.
The fourth quarter was wholly uneventful, even with the Vikings adding more scoring to their total; it was all Minnesota simply trying to run time off of the clock and things just all in all continuing to look bleak for the Giants without OBJ in the lineup. When the clock finally showed zeroes, even the massive win for the Vikings didn’t fully do their dominance in this game justice as they clinched a playoff berth.
Three stars
The Vikings defense was unbelievably dominant against the inept Giants as they sacked Eli four times and picked him off three times as well.
Adrian Peterson came up big and only got better as the game rolled on. He finished the night with 22 carries for 104 yards and a score.
Jerick McKinnon did most of his work with the game already out of reach, but it’s hard to not give a player who rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries his due.
