Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie sent out an e-mail explaining his decision to fire Chip Kelly.

The Philadelphia Eagles made a shocking announcement on Tuesday night, when the team decided to fire Chip Kelly. The Eagles had a down season and after Kelly was given control over the roster, it didn’t look like things were going to improve with him at the helm.

When Kelly came in and made changes to the Eagles’ roster, he didn’t just make minor changes, he traded away or cut almost every good player to get players that he felt could operate in his system. Well his system wasn’t working, so the Eagles felt it was time to make a change, before things got even worse.

The Eagles announced Kelly was fired, when owner Jeffrey Lurie sent out an e-mail explaining the decision to fire Kelly, which he was able to keep away from the media before it was announced. Lurie also explained the personnel changes for the final game of the season.

Former Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur will be the interim coach on Sunday. After that, the Eagles will then begin a coaching search, where they will no doubt look to someone who can fix the mess that Kelly has made.

It’s clear that Lurie had enough and that the time was to act now in Philadelphia. It’s surprising they didn’t let Kelly coach the final game, but with the Eagles now out of playoff contention, Lurie and the rest of the organization didn’t want to waste any time on their decision.
