NFL hot seat: 5 coaches on the way out
The San Diego Chargers looked like a team that could make some noise coming into the 2015 season. After consecutive 9-7 seasons in the first two campaigns under head coach Mike McCoy, it appeared the Chargers might be able to make a run in the AFC West.
However, things have gone horribly wrong for San Diego. The Chargers are likely finishing out their last season in San Diego before moving to Los Angeles, and McCoy could be left behind. San Diego is wrapping up a last-place finish at 4-11, with a likely loss coming in the final week at Sports Authority Field against the Denver Broncos.
McCoy has one of the best quarterbacks in the league to work with in Philip Rivers, but the rest of the roster is old and laced with voids. The defense is absolutely terrible and the offense has very few playmakers outside of an aging Antonio Gates and a small scat back in Danny Woodhead.
Somehow, general manager Tom Telesco was given an extension, so he has the latitude to make a change and likely will exercise that right. McCoy is not getting the job done, and frankly does not inspire much confidence that things are going to change. The Chargers are about to undergo major changes in every possible way, and it might be a good idea to get a fresh start on the sideline.
