Reports claim the Cleveland Browns will fire Ray Farmer.
The Cleveland Browns may well be the laughingstock of the league. And now, after yet another losing season in which they’re future looks bleak, the Browns are looking to make sweeping changes. Head coach Mike Pettine has not had much to work with, but he certainly hasn’t lit the league up. However, he looks to have avoided the blame as general manager Ray Farmer could take the fall for the team’s failures.
Perhaps what sums up the Browns more than anything in recent seasons is their work through the draft, which ultimately lays at the doorstep of Farmer. Perhaps his biggest mistake is the drafting of the enigmatic, controversial Johnny Manziel, among other high profile busts.
Jason Cole from Bleacher Report stated:
"“Sources within the Browns organization say they expect coach Mike Pettine will survive this season despite the failure of the team. Those sources indicate the bigger problem within the organization is not Pettine but is actually general manager Ray Farmer and the selections Farmer has made throughout his tenure and even before that when he was under Joe Banner.”"
Farmer has not performed to a high level in any stretch of the imagination. While Pettine has floundered in the role as head coach, he has undoubtedly has had very little talent to work with. The Browns clearly believe that he can still turn out a well-coached team.
