46.
The Indianapolis Colts are about to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2011, ending a season that many expected to be the final step towards a Super Bowl. Blame for that is being thrown everywhere from the head coach, to the front office to the players on the field. Truth is there are a number of reasons why the Colts have struggled so much this year and a great place to start is on defense.

One of the growing issues has been their inability to get a consistent pass rush. Nobody on their front has shown the ability to become that double digit sack artist all good defenses need. Robert Mathis has seven this season but he’s 34-years old and in clear decline. Perhaps the spot that represents their biggest headache is outside linebacker. It is so important to the success of a 3-4 defense, especially getting the quarterback but the Colts still have nobody there of note.

It’s time for that to change. Leonard Floyd is going to be one of those draft prospects who tests well at the scouting combine and pro days. He’s a great athlete with size, length and speed. His tape shows a player who can move well and has enough power to forge a complete arsenal as a pass rusher. The problem is he hasn’t harnessed that capability yet. When it comes out, he’s almost impossible to stop. It’s getting him to the point of doing it consistently that will be the gamble by the Colts.
. OLB. Georgia. Leonard Floyd. 15. player
