CB. Florida. Vernon Hargreaves III. 6. player. 52.
Few quarterbacks can remind a defense of their deficiencies more than Drew Brees. Even at age 36 and nursing a torn plantar fascia, he pretty much had his way with the Jacksonville Jaguars defense – to the tune of 38 points, 412 yards passing and three touchdowns. More than ever the coaches were shown how inadequate the team is in the secondary.

The only bright spot has been cornerback Aaron Colvin, and even he’s had his ups and downs. Jacksonville is giving up a gaudy 269 yards per game through the air and that has led directly to their problems with allowing 27 points. More stability in coverage is paramount to continuing their ascent towards respectability in the AFC again.

Grabbing the best available corner would be the logical step towards accomplishing that goal. Vernon Hargreaves III will have some questioning him for only being 5’11”, but the Florida product doesn’t play that way. He’s physical with receivers, can hang with them down the field but also takes his tackling technique seriously. The trick for him will be learning to play with a little more control as he can get caught on double moves for big plays from time to time.
