player. 26.
This is an awkward spot for the Baltimore Ravens. As it stands, it doesn’t look like there’s a prospect on the board who fits one of their tops needs like safety, wide receiver or outside linebacker. It would normally hatch a scenario for a trade back but there were no reasonable ideas at hand, forcing Ozzie Newsome into a decision.

One thing clear about the veteran GM is that he is not prone to reaching. Unless a player stands out at a need spot, he’s going to take the best player on the board who can still help his team improve – even if it might be at a position that isn’t entirely hurting for talent or depth. At the end of the day a team can never have enough healthy bodies who can play good football.

So that is what the Ravens do here by scooping up Oregon defensive end DeForest Buckner. A 6’7 monster with stout upper and lower body strength, he is a headache for any offensive lineman because he’s able to anchor against the run, set the edge or drive into the backfield to routinely blow up plays. He’s better at rushing the passer than his numbers indicate as well. Baltimore should be able to find a home for him.
. DE. Oregon. DeForest Buckner. 8
