What is BattleFrog and why is it the sponsor of the Fiesta Bowl?

The Fiesta Bowl is being sponsored by BattleFrog, and people are very confused as to what the hell that is.

College Football fans tuning into bowl games today — the day big bowl games should be played — might be asking themselves the same question. No, it’s not about how stupid it was that the College Football Playoff semifinals were played on New Year’s Eve and no one watched. Instead, it’s all about the Fiesta Bowl and just what the hell it’s new sponsor is.

Tostitos usually sponsored the Fiesta Bowl, but this year a company called BattleFrog took over the naming rights — thus dubbing it the BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl.

So what is BattleFrog?

If you watched the commercial for the company, you’re probably still confused. It’s clear they burned their budget on the naming rights and not advertising about their company.

But there’s a concept to the business. BattleFrog is capitalizing on the CrossFit craze, as it’s a series of obstacle courses that test you physically while giving you a work out at the same time. It’s like those Mud Runs that people do, or the Warrior Challenges that spring up every year.

There was even an obstacle course outside of the Fiesta Bowl for fans to try. Why people drunk on beer and full on hot dogs would want to run an obstacle course is strange logic — but let’s just roll with it.

BattleFrog is a relatively new company, so if you haven’t heard of it then you’re not alone. Nabbing the naming rights for the Fiesta Bowl was a smart move for BattleFrog as it’e generated discussion about the company. That being said, Pets.com was a pretty cool Super Bowl commercial for a company that blew it’s budget in the wrong place.
