Where will Jason Garrett coach in 2016 if the Dallas Cowboys fire him?

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett somehow has escaped the hot seat year after year, despite continual 8-8 finishes. Then in 2014, he earned a huge pay day after taking his team to the NFC Divisional rounds following a 12-win season.

This season his weaknesses as a coach have been exposed after losing starting quarterback Tony Romo to a broken collarbone — twice.

Sitting dead last in the NFC East, Garrett has somehow been given a pass by many media outlets for the terrible season, but it appears the owner of the Cowboys isn’t ready to be so forgiving. Jones has questioned the coaching job done by Garrett and his staff in the absence of their franchise quarterback, and he even has hinted that the inexperience of the head coach (who was never a head coach at any level before Jones took the gamble in 2010) has cost the team the best years of their star players.

While much of the blame can be put squarely on the shoulders of the man once called a red-headed genius, there is also plenty of finger pointing that can go back to Jerry Jones himself.

Poor personnel moves by Jones and company come to mind as an issue, such as the Brandon Carr signing and the Morris Claiborne draft day trade. Also Jones inability to let Jason coach his way could be a problem.

In 2013, Jones forced Garrett to abandon his play calling duties following another 8-8 season where Dallas just missed the playoffs. After letting Bill Callahan have a shot, it seemed Garrett and Jones reached a compromise to bring in Scott Linehan for the honors. This of course led to more chaos as Linehan called the plays, which relegated Callahan, who was the offensive coordinator, to a role focused solely on the offensive line.

Perhaps Garrett could be more successful if he were to get away from the prying hands of Jones. Maybe losing his job would be a blessing in disguise for the Ivy Leaguer. Here is a look at five potential landing spots for Garrett if Jerry has lost his patience.
