Oregon and TCU faced off in the Alamo Bowl, one of the more intriguing matchups of bowl season.

Playing without Trevone Boykin looked to be a huge test for the No. 11 TCU Horned Frogs, especially facing off against one of the most dynamic offenses in the country. Luckily for Bram Kohlhausen, though, No. 15 Oregon doesn’t have a very good secondary.

Oregon would be looking to take advantage of Boykin’s absence and if the Ducks got into a shootout with the Horned Frogs, they would have more firepower to get the job done.

The Ducks got off to a blazing start, taking a 31-0 lead into the locker room thanks to great play from Vernon Adams Jr. and Royce Freeman. TCU was held to under 150 yards in the first half as it seemed like the Horned Frogs couldn’t get anything going on the Oregon defense.

TCU had some serious ground to make up in the second half while being down four scores, but it would take a miracle comeback. A field goal on the opening second half drive wasn’t going to cut it, but it was a start.

Vernon Adams was ruled out for the remainder of the game after a helmet-to-helmet hit in the first half, giving the Horned Frogs a fighting chance. TCU scored the first 17 points of the second half and they were gaining confidence as Kohlhausen figured out the Ducks’ secondary.

The Horned Frogs tied the game up at 31 with just 20 seconds left and a nice kickoff return by the Ducks to the 48-yard-line gave them a shot at a Hail Mary, but Jeff Lockie was sacked to send the game into overtime.

After trading scores for two overtimes, the Horned Frogs finished the incredible comeback.

Three Stars

Bram Kohlhausen came on strong after a terrible first half, passing for 351 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for another two.

Darren Carrington had seven catches for 107 yards and a touchdown for the Ducks.

Royce Freeman was the top rusher of the game, finishing with 26 carries for 130 yards and three touchdowns.

Betting Odds

Oregon came in as a seven-point favorite and the over/under was set at 74 points. The Ducks couldn’t cover the spread as TCU ended up coming back furiously and both teams combined for 88 points.

2016 Openers

The Ducks open the 2016 campaign with a home game against UC Davis. This should be an easy win for Oregon and a good warmup for whoever wins the starting QB job.

TCU will begin the 2016 season with a home game agains the South Dakota State Jackrabbits which will also be a nice measuring stick for the new quarterback.
