Dominique Reed injury update: Latest reports after neck injury

Arkansas wide receiver Dominique Reed was stretchered off the field at the Liberty Bowl fowling a scary injury.

UPDATE: ESPN reports that Reed was taken to Methodist Hospital with what is being called a neck injury. However, he was seen smiling and moving some extremities while being moved to the ambulance.

With just minutes to go before halftime at the Liberty Bowl on Saturday afternoon, there was a sobering scene when Arkansas wide receiver Dominique Reed got laid out after catching a pass and immediately went motionless.

Reed caught a pass that appeared to be going for a first down, but he was laid out before the play was over. He immediately went motionless and the training staff for the Razorbacks came sprinting out almost right away.

It was clear that something had gone wrong as Reed went limp right after being hit and remained motionless for a very long time.

Reed lay motionless on the field for several minutes as the training staff of both teams came out to attend to him while the cart was summoned to take him away.

There was a report from ESPN’s sideline reporter minutes after the injury that Reed was moving his eyes and was conscious on the field — which is a positive sign. He was apparently able to move his fingers but beyond that his status is unknown and it’s foolish to speculate.

Reed’s injury is yet another reminder of the dangers of football, and his status is something that all college football fans will be paying attention to as we all hope this ends up not being as scary as it looked.
