The Philadelphia Eagles interviewed current running backs coach and former running back, Duce Staley, on Friday.

The Philadelphia Eagles are wasting no time as they begin their search for a head coach. With plenty of teams expected to fire head coaches after the final week of the season on Sunday, the Eagles are trying to get a jump on their search for their next head coach.

It looks as if the Eagles are examining their current coaching staff, as they begin their search. According to Jason La Canfora, the Eagles interviewed current running backs coach Duce Staley on Friday. Staley was a fan favorite for years as an Eagles running back, where he was part of one of the best running back trios of his era.

He has been a coach with the Eagles since 2011, and it’s clear that the Eagles have seen enough in him to give him an interview for the job. By interviewing Staley, the Eagles are now Rooney Rule compliant in accordance with league rules.

Owner Jeffrey Lurie has been adamant about making sure that the Eagles exhaust all possibilities to find the next head coach to lead their team back to the playoffs. After the Eagles missed the playoffs two seasons in a row, the team fired head coach Chip Kelly.

While there’s a good chance they were just interviewing Staley to gauge what he can do, it’s clear they aren’t against looking at anyone on the current staff.
