The Ducks got a punt blocked by TCU in the Alamo Bowl and still picked up a first down
In the first half of the 2016 Alamo Bowl, the Oregon Ducks offense was absolutely taking it to the TCU Horned Frogs. While TCU struggled to find a rhythm without Trevone Boykin, the Ducks and Vernon Adams Jr. just couldn’t stop scoring. In fact, Oregon was so unstoppable in terms of their offense that even when they were stopped by TCU they were picking up first downs.
Midway through the second quarter, Oregon was actually stopped deep in their own territory. The Horned Frogs looked to try and start clawing their way back into the game and seemed to have made a big special teams play to do that by blocking the punt. Of course, things turned out terribly for TCU as the blocked punt fell right into the arms of DeForest Buckner for the Ducks who then ran for the first down:

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that before, but that was absolutely unreal. It’s also a heady play by Buckner to find and keep his eye on the ball after it was blocked and then make a move for the line-to-gain. All in all, though, this was just how things were going for TCU and Oregon in the Alamo Bowl.
