San Diego Chargers’ head coach Mike McCoy is expected to stay with the franchise after a disappointing season.

It is coming to that time of year where many of the underachieving head coaches in the NFL are acutely aware of the many pressures that the job brings. Mike McCoy is one of these many coaches, and while it often results in a rather abrupt ending for many a coach, McCoy may well hang on to his job, for another season at least.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, McCoy has instilled “continued confidence” in key members of the franchise, and while the final decision has not been made as of yet, it looks as though he will be allowed to remain the head coach of the Chargers for a fourth season.

The season has been one to forget pretty quickly for San Diego. From underachieving stars to some dreadful luck with injuries, the Chargers’ season has had very few highlights.

At 4-11 they have slipped behind the once hapless Oakland Raiders into last place in the AFC West and are looking at a top-10 draft pick. While McCoy’s future may well be safe for now, the relationship between the franchise and San Diego is far from friendly. The Chargers are one of a few prospective franchises in the running to pack up and move to Los Angeles, and perhaps the rumored move has been a major drain on the side.

Whatever the case, McCoy has not impressed too many during this season, though he may well get another year to prove his quality.
