Arizona State kept things crazy in the Cactus Bowl by returning a blocked extra-point for two points
The West Virginia Mountaineers had a prime opportunity to take a commanding lead over the Arizona State Sun Devils into halftime of the 2016 Cactus Bowl as they scored a touchdown with under a minute remaining in the second quarter. With an extra point, the Mountaineers would’ve taken a 10-point lead in a game that had been so back-and-forth that it feels like that would’ve been enough. However, the Sun Devils made sure to keep things wild.
Getting tremendous pressure up the middle n the West Virginia extra-point attempt, the Sun Devils got a healthy hand on the kick for the block. They got such a clean block on it that the ball essentially fell into the open field for Arizona State and they were able to take it the length of the entire field for the defensive two-point conversion:

That was actually a huge swing in this game. Rather than it being a two-possession contest heading into the locker room for halftime, Arizona State was able to swing the momentum and cut the lead to only seven points. Moreover, they at least had a chance to score again on the ensuing kickoff and possession.
Even though they ultimately failed to score on that possession, the blocked kick and return were fantastic and a huge play in the context of this game.
