Canadiens’ Dale Weise out two to three weeks with upper body injury
The Montreal Canadiens will be without unsung hero Dale Weise for the next two to three weeks due to a upper-body injury suffered during the 2016 Winter Classic.
The Montreal Canadiens got a huge lift on January 1st as forward Brendan Gallagher returned to help the Canadiens beat the Boston Bruins 5-1 in the 2016 Winter Classic. They suffered a setback the same day when center Dale Weise suffered a upper-body injury and had to leave the game.
The Canadiens confirmed that Dale Weise will be out for the next two to three weeks.
Weiss was injured on this play.
Weise has 11 goals and 20 points this season in 40 games after setting a career high with 29 points last season in 79 games. Weise averages just 14:36 of ice time per game, but the Canadiens know that Weise is an extremely important player for them because of his versatility and the energy that he brings.
“I think everybody realizes how important Weise has been for us ever since he was acquired [in 2014],” Brendan Gallagher said, via the Canadiens official website. “Every night he gives us energy, plays an important role and he’s one of those guys that can spark us when we aren’t playing well.”
The Canadiens recalled forward Sven Andrighetto from the AHL to replace Weise, who has been placed on the injured reserve list. Andrighetto has five points in 14 games this season for Montreal and also has 43 points in 60 AHL games.
