The Indianapolis Colts will retain and have extended head coach Chuck Pagano

With Black Monday falling upon the NFL, head coaches around the league were being handed their pink slips. At the end of the day, it seemed that the last major shoe that was expected to drop was the Indianapolis Colts firing head coach Chuck Pagano. As the Colts tend to do, though, they went left when people thought they were going right regarding Pagano.

On Monday night, the Colts announced publicly that they had signed Pagano to an extension—or done the exact opposite of firing their head coach:

The Colts finished the 2015 regular season with a n 8-8 record as they withstood a litany of hardships and injuries, most notably to quarterback Andrew Luck who missed over half of the season due to a number of separate injuries.

However, with how disappointing the Colts—who were projected as Super Bowl favorites out of the AFC coming into the year—were in 2015 even when Luck was healthy and on the field, most people agreed that Pagano would ultimately be the guy to take the fall. That’s apparently not how Jim Irsay and the Colts saw things, though.

There could still be firings still to happen as Colts general manager Ryan Grigson’s job seems far from safe. As for now, though, Pagano is indeed safe in Indy.
