PG—Shane Larkin ($4,400)
The Brooklyn Nets suffered a tremendous blow on Saturday when their starting point guard in Jarrett Jack suffered a torn ACL and is subsequently now out for the rest of the 2015-16 season. While that’s a huge blow for the Nets, that does pave the way for an interesting opportunity for daily fantasy basketball players in that young backup point guard Shane Larkin is now going to be thrust into the starting role in Brooklyn.
Larkin has seen relatively consistent playing time with the Nets this season, though it hasn’t really been much to speak of as he’s been playing only 19.1 minutes per game over the course of his 29 appearances this season. Though his averages of 17.6 fantasy points per game aren’t overwhelming, the fact that he’s averaged just under a fantasy point per minute played this season is promising as his role is set to increase.
Against the Boston Celtics on Monday night, a team that is banged up in their backcourt as well, the matchup for Larkin and the Nets is also relatively favorable. It’s a bit of a crap shoot considering that we don’t know just how much Larkin’s role is going to increase, but the chance that his workload boosts up a great deal and he continues producing fantasy points at a solid rate is worth taking that risk.
