Oklahoma Thunder superstar Kevin Durant will be sidelined tonight against the Sacramento Kings with a toe sprain.

After stepping on an opponent’s foot in the second quarter the Thunder’s 109-90 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday, star forward Kevin Durant awoke on Sunday with soreness and strained right big toe. The former MVP will be monitored closely over the next few days to see how he feels and there is no timetable yet for his return. ESPN NBA writer Royce Young confirms the news:

Durant missed four games last season after injuring his big left toe against the Cleveland Cavaliers, which added to a frustrating season in which the prolific scorer only played 27 games. This current injury does not seem nearly as serious, but the Thunder will in all likelihood keep Durant sidelined for the upcoming game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday as well.

With Durant out the onus will once again fall upon the shoulders of his explosive partner in crime Russell Westbrook. Last season Westbrook garnered a great deal of MVP chatter due to his Herculean performances for the Thunder in Durant’s absence. However there is no denying the huge impact that the 4-time scoring champ has on his team’s offense. The Thunder are 21-7 with No. 35 on the floor, and without Durant they are only 3-3 (per ESPN).
