5. Quick Success

Sean Payton found quick success in New Orleans in his first season in town. In 2006 the Saints reached the NFC Championship game after earning a first round bye. In the next four out of six years, Payton lead the saints to the playoffs, which included winning Super Bowl XLIV. Overall, Payton reached the playoffs in more seasons than he didn’t as the head coach of the Saints.

Payton’s leadership and success in his early years with the Saints is something the Eagles could use. Yes, Chip Kelly reached the playoffs in his first NFL season, but then failed to earn a berth in the next two years. However, Payton has way more experience in the NFL than Kelly has and he’s been a part of other successful NFL teams as an assistant.

Overall, Payton should be able to find quick success in Philadelphia. He’s a much different coach than Kelly and has an NFL background that clearly shows he is able to bring winning ways back to the City of Brotherly Love, which is something that Lurie and the rest of the search committee is aiming for.
