David Shaw is reportedly remaining at Stanford despite being a hot commodity for many NFL teams without a couch currently.
The NFL coaching carousel is upon us with many coaches learning their fate on Black Monday. Yet, one candidate to fill many head coaching vacancies is off the market. Stanford Cardinal head coach David Shaw is reportedly not interested in leaving his current position.
#Stanford coach David Shaw is a top college coaches coveted by @NFL teams. He plans to stay & openings in SF & (likely) Indy won't change it
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 4, 2016
Shaw led Stanford to a sound victory in the Rose Bowl against Iowa. It capped off yet another successful season with the program. From the beginning of his Cardinal tenure, many doubted Shaw and his ability to find success once Andrew Luck went to the NFL. However, Shaw has proven those people wrong and has developed a PAC-12 powerhouse.
The current Stanford coach could fill any NFL head coaching vacancy he wants, including with the 49ers or with Luck in Indy. Yet, it appears he plans to stay put where he is at. The sound of this latest development from Ian Rapoport should make Cardinal administration and the school’s fans excited. He’s choosing loyalty and job security over making more money in the NFL.
It will be interesting to see how long Shaw remains at Stanford until there’s an offer that is too good to shoot down. Yet, that moment hasn’t hit and Shaw will be on the Cardinal sideline and coaching on Saturdays next season instead of on Sundays.
