New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin will reportedly speak with the owners of the football franchise Monday afternoon about his role with the team.

Tom Coughlin’s New York Giants finished 2015 with a 6-10 record and will have the No. 10 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. While the Giants won two Super Bowls under Coughlin, New York has not made the NFC Playoffs since their Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots four years ago.

ESPN.com’s Dan Graziano reports that Coughlin will speak with Giants owners John Mara and Steve Tisch at 1:00 PM ET, stating that “a decision has been made”, but as to what the decision is remains uncertain.

Coughlin has one more year left on his Giants contract and is the oldest active head coach in the National Football League, as he will be 70 years old in 2016 should he stay on as head coach.

While many assume that Mara, Tisch, and Coughlin would all agree to part ways by Coughlin resigning, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that Coughlin may not want to leave the organization willingly, making Mara and Tisch essentially force him out.

For a coach that guided the Giants organization to its third and fourth Super Bowl titles, it’s interesting how the Coughlin era in New York could end acrimoniously should he and ownership be on separate wavelengths.

Regardless of if Coughlin returns in 2016 or not, this roster of the Giants needs a massive overhaul as it was largely uncompetitive for most of 2015. The Giants have the longest playoff drought of any team in the NFC East at four seasons and will need to make the most of their 2016 NFL Draft picks to get back to relevancy in the NFC.
