Top head coaching candidates for the New York Giants.

The New York Giants are searching for a head coach for the first time since the 2004 offseason. After the team and former head coach Tom Coughlin parted ways, ownership will be interviewing a litany of candidates, hoping to find somebody who can fill the considerable shoes Coughlin leaves behind.

New York has some players to work with, although the roster has obvious holes. The Giants have a nice tandem with two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Eli Manning and wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. There are also some pieces in backfield mates Shane Vereen and Rashad Jennings, along with receiver Reuben Randle.

Unfortunately, the Giants have no defense to speak of. New York was hoping to get a better performance on that side of the ball with defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, but the unit does not have the talent to play at a high level. The best player on the defense, end Jason Pierre-Paul, blew off two fingers on his right hand and then broke three on his left hand in a hoverboard accident. When that happens, you are sunk.

Ultimately, the job remains desirable because the quarterback is in place. If you have a good quarterback in the National Football League, you have a chance and a much quicker rebuild. On top of all that, you get to live and coach in New York (yes, it is technically New Jersey).
