It is insane that Doug Marrone is on the market to begin with. Marrone was hired for his first head coaching job in 2013 by the Buffalo Bills, and despite being saddled with Kyle Orton as his quarterback, guided Buffalo to a 9-7 record and the brink of the playoffs. Yet, Marrone exercised a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave Buffalo because of a change in ownership.

This year, Marrone has been coaching the Jacksonville Jaguars as head coach Gus Bradley’s top lieutenant and offensive line guru. Marrone is expected to be hotly pursued, if for no other reason the flashes that he showed while with the Bills. Marrone began his coaching career at tiny Cortland State in 1992 before slowly working his way up the ranks. Eventually, Herm Edwards hired Marrone to run his offensive line with the New York Jets from 2002-05, before moving onto the New Orleans Saints, where he became offensive coordinator.

After a four-year stint with Syracuse as its head coach, Marrone went further west and took on Buffalo. With Marrone’s resume, he will get another shot at being the head coach. The 51-year-old knows how to coach in the trenches, something that is desperately needed with the Giants.
