Trevor Knight has found a new home, and that home will be in College Station, Texas.
Former Oklahoma Sooners starting quarterback Trevor Knight has been searching for a new home after he lost his job in Norman, and now he’s found it. According to a report from USA TODAY, Knight will be playing for the Texas A&M Aggies next season.
Really, this news could not have come at a better time for Texas A&M and the coaching staff. Following the 2015 season, the team learned that both of their starters from the year, Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray, would be suddenly transferring. Losing one quarterback with playing experience is one thing, but when it’s two, you have a serious problem on your hands.
But, now, they’ll be hoping that problem will be solved with the addition of Knight to the roster, someone who does have some significant playing experience in big-time games.
Knight made a national name for himself in the 2014 Sugar Bowl, when he led Oklahoma to a surprising rout of the Alabama Crimson Tide. That gave him some high expectations for 2014, expectations that he ultimately did not meet as the Sooners struggled mightily. This season, Oklahoma decided to make the switch to Baker Mayfield under center, and that proved to be a good one as they recently took part in the College Football Playoff.
But, maybe a change of scenery will do Knight some good in College Station, and his skill set does fit the offense that Kevin Sumlin does like to run. Knight is mobile and can throw on the run, so really, the A&M offense probably won’t miss a beat with him under center, if he does have those inconsistency issues fixed.
