Ben McAdoo and Steve Spagnuolo candidates for Giants job
Ben McAdoo and Steve Spagnuolo are both in the running to replace the departed Tom Coughlin as New York Giants as head coach.
This isn’t all that much of a surprise. Tom Coughlin is gone and now the rumors are beginning to gain momentum. Big names in college and NFL coaching have been linked with the New York Giants’ head coaching job. Names such as Sean Payton, Chip Kelly and Nick Saban.
However, whenever a coach departs, especially from such an established and stable franchise, the offensive and defensive coordinators will always be considered for the role, as long as they have impressed the organisation. Steve Spagnuolo and Ben McAdoo are these such candidates, and will be interviewed for the position.
Ben McAdoo is perhaps the more popular choice among fans. The offensive coordinator has got the best out of Eli Manning and his main weapon, Odell Beckham Jr. and has developed a potent, high scoring offense. Spagnuolo, as defensive coordinator, has led a unit that has conceded the most yards of any defense in the league last season. That isn’t great for the resume.
It will be interesting to see what the course of action the Giants take. With the firing of Coughlin, hiring from within may well surprise a few people with Coughlin having such an influence on the organization as a whole. It was perhaps expected that the Giants would look for a fresh approach by hiring from outside of the club. However, both McAdoo and Spagnuolo have a shot at the job, and no one can deny them their opportunity at least.
