Dirk Nowitzki dunks have always been a rare occurrence. According to basketball-reference, Dirk has dunked more than 20 times in a season just once since the 2007-2008 season and ten or more times just once in the last six season. So when Dirk does rise to dunk, even after the whistle has blown a play dead, we here at the Friendly Bounce take notice.
Unfortunately for Dirk, that went badly for him on Tuesday.

While it is sad to see things go so poorly for Dirk, it was nice to see him handle it in a way that we would expect from Dirk, who just grabs the ball and casually runs in the other direction like nothing happened.
Hopefully the failed attempt does not stop Dirk from attempting to rock the rim during the rest of the season, as his dunk from last season’s All-Star Game was one of the best moments of the year.
