Tom Coughlin resigned as the Giants head coach on Tuesday, and Eli Manning cried about it.

The exit press conference for Tom Coughlin on Tuesday was the most epic thing we could have hoped for. Not only was Coughlin as salty and surly as ever, but he was so crotchety that he stormed out of his own exit presser and walked right past his former boss without so much as a head nod.

One of the highlights — of the many highlights — from Coughlin’s presser was when he had a human moment with his former quarterback, Eli Manning. Coughlin defended Manning and looked him dead in the eye to have a Good Will Hunting moment.

When Coughlin addressed Manning directly during his presser, letting him know it wasn’t his fault all of this happened, the quarterback was reportedly quivering and crying.

No joke, Eli was moved to tears by this:

You can get on manning for any number of reasons, but crying about his head coach being ‘parted with’ by the franchise isn’t among those things. This isn’t just another head coach for Manning — it’s the only head coach he’s ever known at the NFL level and his connection with Coughlin is legit.

That being said, the pressure is on Manning to lead the Giants into the future as he’s now the elder statesman on roster. With Coughlin got, Manning is experiencing something his his career he’s never had to deal with — being totally on his own.
