Rex Ryan might be having quite the short stay in Buffalo if the Bills don’t get themselves into the playoffs.
The much-maligned Rex Ryan just finished up his first season as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, finishing up with an 8-8 record in the process. This wasn’t good enough to get this team into the playoffs, which apparently is a huge problem.
According to the Buffalo News, prior to the final game of the season this past weekend –which saw Ryan and the Bills ruin the playoff hopes of his former team, the New York Jets — Ryan and general manager Doug Whaley met with owner Terry Pegula, and it was at this time that they were informed if this team does not make the postseason following the 2016 season, then they’d all better start looking for some new jobs.
So, yeah, there’s a possibility that Ryan’s stay in Buffalo will be quite brief if he’s not making a Super Bowl run next year.
All things considered here, we saw flashes of a playoff team from this group this season. Whenever a team finishes 8-8 on the year, there’s always the questions lingering about what could have been if some things had gone the right way in a few games. So, from that standpoint, you could somewhat understand where Pegula would take the “playoffs or bust” mentality here with this current regime.
Ryan promised that the Bills would make the playoffs in 2015 and they ultimately fell short. If they don’t after the 2016 regular season, then that’d be all she wrote in Buffalo for one of the most colorful characters we have coaching in the NFL.
