Ronda Rousey, while she is still sidelined, will remain active in the entertainment world becoming the first MMA fighter to host Saturday Night Live.
Despite being knocked out in brutal fashion by Holly Holm, Ronda Rousey remains one of the biggest stars in the UFC. The nature of her injury means she will be out of competition for a spell, but she is remaining active. As reported by Kevin Iole, the former bantamweight champion will host Saturday Night Live on January 23 with musical guest Selena Gomez. This highlights Rousey’s status as a crossover star as she’s the first MMA fighter to ever host the flagship late-night show.
Ronda also becomes the third combat athlete to host the show, following Marvin Hagler and George Foreman. Whenever athletes host the show, it typically makes for some of the show’s famous moments, with Peyton Manning and LeBron James‘ appearances standing out. With Ronda Rousey’s recent loss, and the fallout that came about, there should be no shortage of material. It’ll be worth seeing how Rousey will go if she’s on the receiving end of most jokes.
Following her loss, Rousey took a bit of a social media hiatus, but she’s back to posting regularly on Instagram, including a Shakespeare quote indicating how quickly UFC fans have turned on her:
The UFC can only benefit from Ronda Rousey’s return to the Octagon, and at least her hosting of SNL indicates that she’ll be having fun on the recovery process.
