Father and 6 year old son fly to NHL Winter Classic in Boston and learn that the child remains on a no fly list

Whatever side of the political landscape we stand on, we all have come to accept the airline routines carried out before boarding airplanes in our city terminals.

The events of September 11, 2001 have resulted in more scrutiny before boarding flights in an attempt to reassure us that we will be as safe as we can possibly be while flying. We now know that there are certain procedures that need to be done in order to enjoy a leisure commute 30,000 feet in the sky.

However, there was a particular incident that occurred in Toronto, Canada last week as a father and son were heading from the Ontario capital to the city of Boston to enjoy the annual Winter Classic hockey game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Bruins on New Years Day.

According to the Metro News newspaper, in Toronto, six-year-old Adam Syed Ahmed was looking forward to seeing his favorite hockey club, the Montreal Canadiens, compete in Boston with his father. However, he was given a DHP (deemed high profile) status.

His father immediately took to Twitter saying, “Why is our (Canadian born) 6 year old on DHP no fly list? He must clear security each time. He is 6.”

The boy’s Mom, Khadija Cajee, says this type of action is not new to them. They have had issues in the past trying to board their son on flights. Cajee says that the boy and his father are Canadian and her family left South Africa to escape apartheid.

Cajee believes her son nay share the same name as someone who deserves to be on the no fly list.

“My husband and I were joking – my son and my husband are really big Habs fans — so we were joking that maybe a Leafs fan made this list,” said Cajee.

Canadian Public Finance Minister Ralph Goodale is currently looking into this matter further and will update the family at a later date. Air Canada representatives did not have any further comments on the matter.

The world is filled with various forms of fear these days but does this little boy look like a problem to our society?
