2. He has lost a step

While Johnson is certainly worthy of the Hall of Fame and is still putting together great seasons, it is clear that he isn’t the same player that he used to be. Like many great players, time takes it’s toll just like the physicality of the game, which has left Johnson with losing a step.

He is certainly at the point of the career, where he would have to consider making a move inside to remain successful in this league and to adapt to age. However, if he truly is considering retirement and hanging it up for good, then retirement might be a better option.

Rather than come back and try to adapt to a new stage in his career, which takes a lot of time and will certainly take even more of a toll on his body, then Johnson should leave on top after a great season.

Sure, he could stay and still do big things at the receiver spot. The thing is that there’s nothing left to prove by doing that and with the way the Lions are trending in uncertainty, there might not be anything to gain from it either than stats to add to his Hall of Fame resume.

If he is truly content with where he is at, then he should hang it up. Rather than playing when a drastic drop in production hits, he could simply go out on a high note.
