Former Boston Globe columnist apologized for off-color remarks he made about Mark Jackson
As a guest on the Dan Le Batard Show on Wednesday, retired Boston Globe columnist Bob Ryan made several disparaging remarks about former Golden State Warriors head coach and former NBA point guard Mark Jackson. Ryan went as far as to call Jackson a “con-man” and the comments culminated with Ryan concluding that the Warriors started taking off after they got rid of the “Bible-pounding phony” and picked up a real coach in Steve Kerr.
Obviously all of these comments went over like a ton of bricks and raised a stir throughout the Internet. Subsequently, Ryan was forced to tuck his tail between his legs and apologize on Twitter, also stating that he personally apologized to Jackson:
I made personal & disparaging radio remarks about Mark Jackson that were way over the top. Have reached out to Mark with my sincere apology.

While he at least apologized for crossing the line in regards to his comments about the former Warriors coach, it’s a little befuddling why he felt the need to go off about him in the first place. It’s pretty much common knowledge that the Warriors got better in part because of putting a better head coach for their particular team in place, so saying that in an unnecessarily heated tone and also going as far as to bring religion into the equation.
At least he apologized, though. But perhaps he’ll think before he speaks in the first place next time.
