Sean Payton to stay with the New Orleans Saints

Sean Payton is to stay with the New Orleans Saints for another year.

Sean Payton is one of the most experiences, successful coaches in the NFL right now. However, just last week Tom Coughlin was the same, and he and the New York Giants parted ways. The New Orleans Saints have been poor for two seasons now, and there has been great scrutiny over Payton’s role at the franchise.

His partnership with Drew Brees has been fruitful for the Saints, bringing a Super Bowl back to New Orleans in 2009. However, two consecutive losing seasons, and two years out of the playoffs, had convinced some to believe that Payton’s time at the organization was drawing to a close. When the age and perceived decline of Brees is factored into the equation, for many, it was only logical that the Saints start afresh.

However, per Ian Rapoport, New Orleans have chosen to stick by their long time head coach, for one more year at least. Payton had been linked with other head coaching jobs around the league, including the Giants. However, it looks as though he will no longer be available for franchises looking for new head coaches.

The Saints have chose to keep him. Now we get to see what happens.
