Texas Tech Red Raiders vs No. 13 Iowa State Cyclones
Tubby Smith may not have gotten a fair shake at Minnesota a few years ago when he was let go despite the program being in the upper half of the conference. Boy, do the Golden Gophers miss him right now as he’s led the Texas Tech Red Raiders to an 11-1 record through the first 12 games of the season and people are already talking about him as a possible coach of the year candidate.

With a chance to pull off a major upset on the road Wednesday, Smith’s Red Raiders will have to make sure not to fall victim to the “Hilton magic” which propels the Iowa State Cyclones to big victories on many occasions. Since losing to Utah in the second game of the year, Texas Tech has won 10 straight games and doesn’t look to be slowing down soon.
At this point, it feels like Georges Niang has been at Iowa State for about 10 years. The senior forward is the leader of this team as well as its top scorer at 19.6 points per game. If the Cyclones are going to put together a Final Four run this season, Niang will need to keep producing at this high level and, most importantly, stay healthy.
Niang might be the top scorer headed into this contest, but luckily for Iowa State, it has five more players who average at least 12 points per game. The good thing about that is everyone who plays knows how to score, but the negative is that the Cyclones are only about eight guys deep.
