2. Alex Smith

After being given up on and left for dead by Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers, Alex Smith found new life in Kansas City. In hindsight it has been a great pairing for both player and franchise, with each looking to heal deep-cutting wounds.Smith has the perfect coach in Andy Reid, who will call conservative enough plays to let him flourish while not being forced to do too much.

As the 2015 season has progressed Smith has looked more and more like a leader. He’s got wheels, he can go over the top when teams are sleeping and he has the respect of his teammates. He may not be a wold-beater statistics-wise, but he’s a perfect fit within his team’s makeup.

1. Trent Green

There was really no question with this one. Trent Green is, unquestionably, the best starting quarterback the Chiefs have had in the past 22 years. During his tenure, Kansas City was one of the best offenses in the league. His only deficiencies were that he played for teams without any defense and that he was injury prone.

One of the great on-field tragedies in Kansas City history is that Green was saddled with the brain trust of Carl Peterson and Herman Edwards. Green’s crowning achievement was a perfect game against the Detroit Lions, where his statline was 20-for-25, 341 yards, three touchdowns and a 158.3 quarterback rating – Kansas City won the game, 45–17.
