Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Leonard Floyd has declared for the 2016 NFL Draft.
One of the top pass rushers in the country is heading to the NFL Draft.
On Thursday, the Georgia Bulldogs officially announced that linebacker Leonard Floyd would forgo his senior season to head to the NFL. The decision comes as no surprise with head coach Mark Richt being fired and then becoming the head coach of the Miami Hurricanes.
At 6-foot-4 and 231 pounds, Floyd is s smaller and more athletic linebacker that uses speed to get to the quarterback. He led the Bulldogs with 4.5 sacks and 74 tackles in 2015.
Floyd is an absolute athletic freak and the fact that he is leaving early for the NFL should come as no surprise, as he told Dawg Nation, he had his mind set on leaving for a while now.
"“I pretty much had my mind set on leaving pretty much the whole season,” Floyd said."
Floyd is one of the hardest working guys in the NCAA and coaches in the NFL will certainly love his work ethic. He’s projected to be a first-round pick and many scouts will love him for his high upside at the outside linebacker position.
With plenty of quarterbacks in the NFL that are faster and able to escape outside the pocket, a guy like Floyd is a necessity to be able to track down quarterbacks at the NFL level.
Whether or not his size will affect him at the next level will remain to be seen, but if Floyd has shown anything over his career with the Bulldogs, it’s that he is willing to outwork the man across from to get where he needs to be.
